Area Attractions in and near Ithaca, New York

Nestled between Lake Cayuga and Lake Seneca, this region of the Finger Lakes in upstate New York, offers a wide variety of activities, a few of which are catalogued below. First and foremost are the many outdoor activities. Some of the most beautiful waterfalls and gorges in the world are located around every corner. Five miles from the Copper Beacons Bed and Breakfast is Taughannock Falls, a 215-foot straight vertical drop of water, one of the tallest east of the Mississippi River.

Not far away are Cascadilla Gorge, Buttermilk Falls, and Upper Tremain Park, all of which offer spectacular waterfalls. A short drive will bring you to Montour Falls or Watkins Glen State Park.

The Finger Lakes National Forest is just two miles from our door. It offers miles of hiking trails through woods and fields with vistas of Seneca Lake.
Cayuga lake offers a wide variety of water activities from kayaking to swimming. Boat tours are available in Ithaca and Seneca Falls. The 90-mile shoreline is an attraction for bicyclists, who come to enjoy the scenic beauty and the challenge of the trip around the lake. Of course, there are shorter bicycling rides, which we can suggest for your enjoyment.

At the south end of Cayuga Lake is Ithaca, home to Cornell University and Ithaca College. One attraction on the Cornell campus is Plantations, which includes 50 acres of botanical gardens. Gardeners will find hours of enjoyment in the Robison State Herb Garden and other adjoining demonstration gardens. Tours are offered every Wednesday and Saturday during the summer.

The climate is perfect for viticulture and a blossoming wine industry is emerging in this region. The Copper Beacons is located in the heart of the wine country with a dozen or more wineries within a ten-mile radius of us.
