In the Fall of 1999 we purchased this house to establish an herb farm and bed & breakfast. Built in the early 1800's by Allyn Boardman, it was one of the first "Grand Houses" in the Ithaca, New York area. It was built true to the style of Northern New England farmhouses, connecting structures in a "Big House, Little House, Outhouse, Barn" configuration.

The house is situated on approximately 40 acres of prime farmland which has been continually under cultivation for the past 200 years. Bordered with hedgerows, it is sited ideally for establishing an organic environment. During the past seven years we have been building the soil structure and now have approximately four acres prepared for commercial beds and demonstration gardens.

Gardens surrounding the house are being developed to demonstrate how herbs can be utilized to compliment foundation plantings and beautify home grounds. Visitors are encouraged to stroll the grounds and watch our emerging gardens develop. And please do ask questions. We enjoy sharing this time of building with you.

The Copper Beacons Herb Shop opened in April 2007. An ideal gathering place at the farmhouse with a replica of a historic eighteenth century fireplace, it features culinary and decorative herbs for sale. Other items include loose tea and tea blends, tea and cooking accessories, herbal soaps and lotions, and craft items. We have theme gift baskets and can create a special basket just for you from items in our shop, given 24 hours notice. Items are being added weekly so stop by the shop when you are in the area.
